Trivia:

The pound has little demand for foreign exchange in the real economy due to exports and imports, and most transactions are speculative funds, so the amount of currency in circulation is small, so its price is prone to fluctuations, and all currency pairs with the pound are hotbeds of traders hoping to get rich quick.

It is difficult to survive in this market, and there are many cases of people being driven to bankruptcy in a day, so the pound is also known as the "killer currency."

All banknotes have Queen Elizabeth, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, printed on the front.

The pound currency issued by the Bank of England is legal tender in England and Wales, but since the issuance of the pound is also permitted in Scotland and Northern Ireland, it is in fact circulated throughout the four countries that make up the United Kingdom.

Japan and the UK have a history of exchanges spanning more than 400 years since the British navigator William Adams (Miura Anjin) was shipwrecked on a Dutch ship in Bungo (present-day Oita Prefecture) in 1600.

Diplomatic relations were established with the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Japan and the UK in 1858. The Anglo-Japanese Alliance was concluded in 1902 (it expired in 1923).

Except for a period around the time of World War II, the two countries have maintained good bilateral relations. In 2018, they celebrated the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
