Trivia:

In 1993, the Mexican peso was devalued to 1/1,000 and the ISO code was changed from MXP to MXN.

The Mexican peso, which switched to a floating exchange rate system, fell by 65% in one go, and the Mexican government was on the verge of default on its debt.

Although the default was avoided with global cooperation, Mexico suffered a 52% inflation, the repercussions of which reached Latin American countries such as Argentina.

This is called the Tequila Effect. To combat counterfeit bills, polymer (plastic) bills were introduced for 20 and 50 peso bills,

which have a transparent window in one part. As this is durable, more and more countries are introducing it, starting with smaller denominations.
