Trivia:

The Old Taiwan Dollar was issued in 1946 in exchange for the Bank of Taiwan notes issued by Japan.

After a period of turmoil, including the Chinese Civil War and the relocation of the Kuomintang government to Taiwan, the New Taiwan Dollar was issued in 1950 as a silver-standard convertible currency.

The silver convertibility system was abolished in 1992, and in 2000 the Bank of Taiwan became a currency issued by the central bank.

They are called the "New Taiwan Dollar" and the "Taiwan Dollar", but they are both the same thing.

Also, the banknotes have "Republic of China" written on them, so be careful as many people confuse them with the Chinese yuan.

Of course they cannot be used in China. The 200 dollar bill and the highest denomination 2,000 dollar bill are rarely in circulation.
