Turkey is a very pro-Japanese country, and in 2005, it issued the new Turkish lira to replace the old Turkish lira. The exchange rate between the new and old Turkish lira is 1 million to 1. The new Turkish lira was used for a short period until 2008, but the current currency used since 2009 has reverted to the name of the Turkish lira. In August 2018, the deterioration of relations with the United States caused the Turkish lira to plummet against major currencies, resulting in a currency crisis. The Turkish lira/US dollar exchange rate fell 14% from the previous day, and then plummeted by about 26% within the next few days, which is called the Turkey Shock.
