Trivia

Japan and Peru are strategic partners who share fundamental values and principles (freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law). Diplomatic relations were established in 1873, the earliest in Latin America. Relations between Japan and Peru have always been good, except during World War II and the Toledo administration, when the issue of the extradition of former President Fujimori arose. Peru is also the country with the oldest history of Japanese immigration in South America (immigration began in 1899), and is home to a Japanese community of approximately 200,000 people.
